Courses

All courses are held at Vivien’s home, near Midsomer Norton,Somerset on Saturdays from 10.30-5pm. They include breaks for tea and coffee and lunch.

‘Making days’ will include demonstrations and hands-on preparation, cooking and finishing marmalades, jams or chutneys. You will learn about selecting fruit, pectin levels, setting point, sterilising and bottling your preserves.

‘Competition days’ will take you through the exact judging process explaining the marking system and what the judges look for in a competition. You will be encouraged to evaluate your own marmalade, jam or chutney and take part in a taste test.

A day course costs £85 payable with your booking. Two places booked at the same time £125.

Jam making

How to create jewel coloured jams. Learn how to prepare and cook the fruit, to add sugar at the right time and finish the jam to give a perfect set.
